Tallinn
About
Tallinn is the New York-based project of Scott Whittaker, whose music combines jazz-inflected soft-rock, corroded by shoegaze noise and post-punk textures.
Debuting in 2013 with their self-released LP Expatriate, they followed up with the high-concept Special Economic Zone (2015), an album taking place at the intersection of virtual and real in the globalized cultural marketplace, giving image to a world mediated and mistranslated by the Internet, foreign pop idols and romanticized geographies echo through a landscape of commodity and ruin.
With Varieties of Exile I (2018) Tallinn has introduced the first of an ambitious trilogy of EPs detailing the experiences of filial anxiety and privileged delusion - seeking to reveal the commodification and self-delusion beneath his perceived musical/personal identity, recognizing the reality of consequence and decay that lies beyond the surface of everyday life.
